Immobilization of marine toxins on carboxylic acid modified surfaces
نویسندگان
چکیده
Saxitoxin and gonyautoxin 2 and 3 are among the most toxic components of the Paralytic Shellfish Poison from red tides. Being small molecules, they often require to be immobilized in order to be handled experimentally. Here is presented a methodology for covalently binding the toxins to carboxilatemodified surfaces. Both toxins were successfully bound to magnetic beads and saxitoxin was additionally bound to a modified golden surface in order to perform a surface plasmon resonance analysis. Success of binding to magnetic beads was evaluated through a standard immune-based toxin assay. Despite the different methods used for each toxin, the maximum binding yield for both toxins occurred when using concentration of 120 μM.

Polystyrene surfaces obtained by spin-coating a solution of polystyrene in toluene on a gold layer were functionalized with carboxylic acid groups by preadsorption of the sodium salt of undecylenic acid, followed by an argon plasma treatment. A conjugate of albumin and heparin (alb-hep) was covalently immobilized onto the functionalized surface via preactivation of carboxylic acid groups with a...

Cytochrome c (cyt c)-immobilized monolayers and multiple monolayers of a conducting polymer [poly(terthiophene-3-carboxylic acid) polymer (poly-TTCA)] were prepared, where the monolayer of monomer precursor was fabricated with the Langmuir-Blogett technique. Covalent immobilization of cyt c was achieved by the formation of an amide bond between the carboxylic groups of the conducting polymer an...

Herein we describe the preparation of hybrid polymer-inorganic interfaces by the immobilization of polyoxometalate nanoclusters on functionalized polymer surfaces. The polymeric surfaces were made of polystyrene-b-poly(acrylic acid)/polystyrene (PS-b-PAA/PS) blends by spin coating on a silicon wafer. The functionalization of the polymer film was obtained by interfacial migration of the amphiphi...

To study the effect of ionizable functional groups on the adhesion of leucocytes to surfaces, both poly(ethyleneimine) and poly(acrylic acid) were immobilized on polyurethane films, resulting in the introduction of amine and carboxylic acid groups, respectively. This was confirmed by contact angle measurements and XPS analysis. In vitro adhesion of granulocytes and lymphocytes on untreated and ...
